How To Identify Mould In Your Home?

A harmless black spot on your wall or ceiling could soon develop into clusters of mold, which would spread quickly and contaminate the air in your house. Mold is a type of fungus that you do not want growing in or near your home because it can spread disease and cause structural issues! It is your responsibility as a responsible homeowner to check your property for mold or other types of fungus, and if you find any, take quick action to remove it in a way that is both safe and effective.

It’s simple for people to believe that their home isn’t susceptible to a mold infestation because the weather isn’t “favourable” for the fungus to grow; nevertheless, there are specific indoor conditions that encourage the growth of mold within the walls of every home, everywhere.

How to identify mould?

Among fungi found in homes, stachybotrys atra, or black mould, is the most prevalent type. Even though it doesn’t always grow obvious, hidden black mold can sometimes be recognized by its smell. You may have mold growing behind a covered area if you suddenly notice a musty smell coming from a room. In a similar vein, mold can trigger a range of allergic reactions, such as coughing, wheezing, sneezing, and irritation of the skin and eyes.

Naturally, the most obvious sign of mold growth is a dark stain on your ceiling or walls. It can have the appearance of fuzzy black spots or a texture that is moist and slimy. Conversely, different kinds of mold come in a range of colors, such as orange, brown, green, and white. Additional indicators of mold include paint peeling, tiny bulges in your ceiling or walls, general discolouration, and strange odors.

Mould hotspots

As we previously stated, a number of factors contribute to the fungus’s existence and spread, so the weather isn’t always a factor in the development of mold within your home. For instance, mold grows when condensation happens, which is the result of humid air coming into contact with a cold surface and producing water droplets. High humidity levels are generally thought to create an ideal environment for a variety of mold species to flourish in. Laundry rooms, garages, basements, bathrooms, attics, and even some sections of kitchens fall under this category.

Mold can also be found in the area surrounding the condenser of an air conditioner, behind or beneath washing machines, and around plumbing fixtures. Lastly, it’s important to routinely check for the growth of mold beneath kitchen sinks and other areas that have experienced water leaks.

It shouldn’t be in vain to invest the time and energy necessary to eradicate mold from your house. To put it another way, eliminating the mold alone won’t suffice unless you take steps to stop it from returning, which it inevitably will! The goal is to permanently eradicate the mold in your house so that you won’t have to go through this whole process again.
