5 Ways to Renovate Your Garage

The garage is one of the spaces in the house that we sometimes forget when fixing and remodelling despite the demanding use we usually give to it. We use it regularly to park our vehicle, store tools and to do heavy work.

For this reason, it is not uncommon for our garage to look quite damaged in a short time. If you want to keep it in better condition, continue reading, and you will find five ways to renovate your garage.

Organise and discard

The first step to any cleaning or remodelling is to classify the objects that you want to reorganise and sort the things you want to get rid of.

Sometimes it can be challenging to get rid of some things. See this process as an opportunity where you can sell or donate things that are in good condition to someone who will benefit from having them.

Protect the floor

The garage floor gets spoiled and dirty every time the car enters and leaves, that is normal. In this case, what you can do is prolong its proper condition.

Painting the garage floor is a great way to renovate it completely. Of course, you will have to choose a special paint that protects it from moisture and prevents the appearance of mould.

It is best to protect your garage floor with an epoxy surface, which guarantees that the garage floor remains in perfect condition for several years, in addition to being easy to clean.

Use plastic containers

The most efficient way to store the things you have in your garage is using plastic containers. Forget about having everything disorganized, in this way you can classify things as you want, and you can even identify each container to know what is in each one.

Another advantage is that you do not have to worry that what you have in your garage accumulates dust, you should only clean the surface of the containers from time to time, and unlike using cardboard boxes, with the plastic, you will not have to worry about your things getting wet.

Improve the lighting and Environment

The simple fact of giving it good lighting will transform the garage completely. Typically, the design of this space in the house is made so that it has small windows or none in some case.

The garage often has poor artificial lighting which makes it more complicated to look for things in it and seem like a dirty and abandoned place.

To avoid this, it is always best to prefer sunlight: add one or several windows large enough for the garage to light during the day, where you cannot try to install a skylight.

Remember that it is also essential to have light bulbs that illuminate enough when it gets dark.

For a cooler, more natural environment, consider some living plants. Choose low light plants if necessary such as maidenhair ferns or indoor plants and use GRC planter boxes to contain them and keep them safe and healthy.

Add Insulation

In addition to keeping you warm during the winter, insulating your garage will reduce your energy consumption since, in case it is next to the house, the heat will escape through this area and force your heating system to work more than it should.

These are just some tips that you can follow to renovate your garage, in the end, you are the one who decides how to remodel it, in some cases some people even choose to transform it entirely until it becomes an extra room for their house.
