7 Sofa Buying and Arranging Mistakes that Can Break Your Room

It’s a thing we all have in common at our homes. We sit over it to enjoy TV shows or lay down for a short nap. Can you guess what is it?

Yeah, you are right. We are talking about the sofa. Besides providing a comfortable seating option, an elegant and sleek sofa accentuates the interiors. It is safe to say that sofas are an essential part of our domestic living. In fact, they are one of the first impressions of our homes.

Imagine what would be the scenario inside your home without having sofas around.

However, not all people know how to buy a sofa or how to place them. For example, buying a large sofa for your small spaces will make your home look congested. Similarly, wrong placement can affect your daily activity.

Here we have rounded up some mistakes most people do while buying or arranging a sofa.

MISTAKE # 1: Buying a Sofa That is Too Small or Too Big

This is a common mistake most people do while buying a sofa. They don’t consider the dimensions of a room or measure the space. Don’t be carried away by the appearance of a sofa in the store. A sofa might look small in a showroom but proves too big for your room, so not considering your space or a sofa can lead to many issues.

Besides measuring your room, consider the scale. Make sure your sofa should be the same scale as other furniture in the room so that it doesn’t look too large or too small when placed along with them.

MISTAKE # 2: Not Experiencing It before Buying

Do you try out the sofa for comfort and quality before buying?

If not, then you are making a blunder that will torment you in the long run. Therefore, always try out a sofa before buying. For example, the seat should be deep enough for a tall person to sit in comfort. For people with average height or bad knees, make sure to consider a shallow seat that allows them to rise out of it without any difficulty.

Always buy a sofa bed for living room after determining its comfort level with your height, body stature or any health condition. The cushions and the back should be as comfortable or stiff as you want them to be.

MISTAKE # 3: Not Considering the Traffic Flow

When you are placing a sofa in any room, make sure to ponder over how people will get around all of these sofas. There is no use of the layout which forces people to climb or trip over one sofa to access another. They should be able to roam through the room without having to go through a zigzag route. There should be clear routes among them.

MISTAKE # 4: Placing Sofa against the Walls

One of the most common mistakes people make is pushing sofas against the walls only. Although it is a tried and tested way to make a room look bigger, it can make the area in the middle “weirdly” spacious. Pulling the sofas away from the walls will make those areas more welcoming and balanced.

MISTAKE # 5: Forgetting Your Preferences

Do you like to put your feet up on the table? Are you the kind of person who likes to have a meal while sitting in the living room? Or you are the one who likes to have his cup of coffee while sitting on the couch? Keep in mind that it’s your home and the sofas should be placed according to your lifestyle.

MISTAKE # 6: Putting Them in Front of Windows

Placing a sofa in the very front of windows will block the way of natural light into the room. In this scenario, the room will look smaller, crowded and gloomy.

But this can be challenging if your room has floor-to-ceiling windows. If there is no way other than placing furniture in front of windows, you can use mirrors, reflective surface and smart lightings to enhance the remaining natural light.

MISTAKE # 7: Not Choosing the Right Fabric or Colour

Choosing the wrong fabric for your sofa can cost you sooner or later.

Always keep in mind how the sofa will be used as well as its placement.

If you have pets or kids or the sofa is going to be placed in a heavily used area, make sure to prefer durable fabric over a delicate one.

Choosing the wrong fabric colour can also be an expensive mistake. Therefore, make sure that it goes well with the wall paint and shade of other furnishings in the room.

So these are some mistakes that are associated with the buying and placement of sofa. Avoid making these mistakes to make your sofa the best investment you ever made for your home. What do you think? Let us know by commenting below.
